Soothe Animal
Soothe Animal attempts to stop an ordinary animal from attacking, provided it is no longer threatened. It can allow a safer encounter or a retreat without needless combat. It does not create a permanently obedient companion. The animal retains its own behaviour, and the original reason for its fear can remain important to the scene and the party's decisions.
After casting, it is essential that the heroes do not attack or threaten the animal again. A main animal opponent is affected only through limits on its special ability and next attack. This distinction and the restriction on repeated use against the same target must be respected. The spell can provide an opportunity to understand the situation, but it does not itself explain why the animal was aggressive.
Exact effect: On success, an ordinary animal stops attacking unless threatened again. A main animal opponent only skips its special ability and takes −2 to its next attack. Bonus: +0 MATK. Target: 1 animal in sight. Duration: until the end of the scene or until attacked. Limit: once per scene on the same animal; the main-opponent rule applies. Use requires at least INT 6, the appropriate spellcasting ability and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.
