Nature Magic · defensive

Bark Armor

Bark Armor briefly increases the physical defence of the caster or an ally within reach. In the story, it can resemble a protective layer drawn from nature, but it is not ordinary permanent equipment that can be removed or sold after the scene. Its stated effect is a defensive bonus for a limited time, rather than turning the hero into a tree.

It is useful for three rounds of anticipated physical danger. The effect does not stack and can be used once per combat. To protect an ally, the caster must get within reach, which matters when planning an approach. The spell does not automatically increase magic defence or add new attacks; the protected hero still needs to act sensibly.

Exact effect: The target gains +2 PDEF against physical attacks. Bonus: +2 PDEF. Target: caster or 1 ally within reach. Duration: 3 rounds. Limit: once per combat; does not stack. Use requires at least INT 7, the appropriate spellcasting ability and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.

Meeting requirements is not enough

Min. INT and Min. Level only allow a spell to be learned. The character must actually acquire it through leveling, a teacher, a book, a scroll, a reward, a discovery, or the story.
