Sneak Attack
Once per combat, gains +2 to the final Attack result if the target has not yet acted this round.
Human/NPC Challenge 2
A thief may grow up in city alleys, operate in a marketplace or burgle houses in a wealthy neighborhood. This profile describes someone accustomed to acquiring things discreetly and finding gaps in other people's attention. They study guards' habits, crowds and escape opportunities. An abandoned warehouse or a room above an inn may serve as a hideout, but an experienced thief dislikes revealing their true base.
They work alone, with a trusted partner or for a group that divides tasks among lookouts, thieves and fences. If they belong to a guild, they may answer to its rules and leaders. Money, debt, survival, revenge or a desire for a particular object can motivate them. Their ability to steal does not determine whom they are willing to harm. Some avoid violence, while others remove obstacles without hesitation.
Sneak Attack gives them an advantage once per combat against a target that has not yet acted that round. A thief therefore benefits from surprise and acting quickly, while a long, open confrontation may jeopardize their escape route. The party can catch, hire or persuade them to return a stolen item. An interesting encounter can also arise when they know about a greater crime and offer information in exchange for protection from their own employer.
