Venom and Web
After taking damage from its mandibles, the target loses 1 HP at the end of the next round. Once per battle, its web may impose −2 DEFENSE on the target until the end of the target's next turn.
Monster Challenge 3
A giant spider inhabits caves, overgrown forests, underground spaces, and abandoned buildings where it can anchor its web. In Elaria, it may belong to a wild population or come from a place long affected by magic. Remnants of webbing, wrapped prey, and faintly trembling strands warn of its presence. A web is more than an obstacle: it can help the spider detect movement in areas it cannot see directly.
It acts primarily as a hunter. It often lives alone, although a larger infestation may contain several individuals and their young. It has no interest in human wealth or ordinary revenge; prey, safety, and defending its shelter explain most of its behavior. It can wait patiently and strike only when its target is at a disadvantage. If it serves another being, the particular story must explain how it is controlled.
After a damaging bite from its mandibles, Venom causes an additional loss of HP at the end of the next round. Once per battle, Web temporarily reduces the target's defense by two; it does not automatically immobilize the target completely. The combination makes an isolated character vulnerable. The party can examine the webs' anchor points, choose another route, or free a victim who is still alive. A sudden spread of spiders may indicate an abandoned space, a change in available food, or the opening of underground chambers that should have remained sealed.
