Fantasy humanoid Challenge 4

Orc Chieftain

An orc chieftain leads a group whose strength rests on warriors, supplies, and the ability to defend its territory. In Elaria, the leader may come from a respected lineage, gain leadership through a duel, or establish authority as a protector of the community. The seat of power may be a fortified camp, a mountain settlement, or an occupied fortress. Insignia, equipment, and trophies often commemorate the deeds on which that position rests.

The chieftain can plan and understands relationships within the group. The leader must convince warriors, important families, and other influential people that this leadership brings safety or success. A chieftain may act independently or owe an obligation to a more powerful ally. Goals often include protecting territory, securing resources for the group, recognition, and personal power. Aggressive behavior may arise from tradition, fear of losing authority, or a long-standing dispute with neighbors. Origins and appearance alone do not determine willingness to honor an agreement.

Once per battle, Battle Cry temporarily strengthens the attacks of up to two allies. Battle Fury increases the chieftain's melee attack when below half of maximum HP, so a wounded chieftain remains dangerous. The party can investigate the dispute's cause, negotiate over prisoners, or expose an outside manipulator. An offer must account for how the chieftain will explain it to the community. Removing a genuine threat to that community may produce a stronger agreement than a merely enforced truce.
