Wind Shield

Wind Shield provides brief protection against ranged physical attacks. It is useful when opponents rely on projectiles and the party needs to move or protect a specific member. Its focus is narrow: the defensive effect cannot automatically be extended to melee combat, spells, or every danger coming from farther away.

The caster can choose themselves or a visible ally and must account for the short duration. One use per combat and the prohibition on stacking encourage thoughtful timing. Before casting, it is important to determine what the enemy is actually attacking with. A well-chosen shield can help cross an exposed stretch, but does not replace a plan against other kinds of attack.

Exact effect: The target gains +2 PDEF against ranged physical attacks. Provides no protection against melee combat or spells. Bonus: +2 PDEF. Target: caster or 1 ally within sight. Duration: 2 rounds. Restrictions: once per combat; only against projectiles; does not stack. Using it requires at least Intelligence 7, the appropriate casting ability, and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.

Meeting requirements is not enough

Min. INT and Min. Level only allow a spell to be learned. The character must actually acquire it through leveling, a teacher, a book, a scroll, a reward, a discovery, or the story.
