Ice Shield

Ice Shield briefly provides magical support to the physical defense of the caster or a visible ally. Its appearance in the story may resemble a cold protective layer, but what matters is the exact defensive bonus. Its name alone does not add a freezing counterattack, slow an enemy, or provide special protection against every spell threatening the party.

It is useful when a physical attack is expected during the next two rounds. Choose the protected target and account for its other active defenses, because the effect does not stack. Limited use per combat encourages thoughtful timing. The party can take advantage of the brief protection during an important maneuver, but should not treat it as lasting safety.

Exact effect: The target gains +2 PDEF against physical attacks. Bonus: +2 PDEF. Target: caster or 1 ally within sight. Duration: 2 rounds. Restrictions: once per combat; does not stack. Using it requires at least Intelligence 8 and Level 2, the appropriate casting ability, and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.

Meeting requirements is not enough

Min. INT and Min. Level only allow a spell to be learned. The character must actually acquire it through leveling, a teacher, a book, a scroll, a reward, a discovery, or the story.
