Shadow Cloak

Shadow Cloak envelops the caster in protection that makes ranged physical attacks harder to aim. It is a brief defensive spell for the caster rather than clothing passed to another hero. Its name can support the dark atmosphere of a scene but does not imply complete invisibility. The effect applies precisely to the stated kind of attack.

It is useful when projectiles are expected over the next few rounds. It does not automatically protect against melee combat or magical attacks. One use per combat and non-stacking apply, so it must be coordinated with other defenses. The party can use the caster's protection during a risky maneuver but must still deal with the enemy and other threats.

Exact effect: Shadows make aiming harder and give the caster +2 PDEF against ranged physical attacks. Bonus: +2 PDEF. Target: caster. Duration: 3 rounds. Restrictions: once per combat; only against ranged attacks; does not stack. Using it requires at least Intelligence 6, the appropriate casting ability, and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.

Meeting requirements is not enough

Min. INT and Min. Level only allow a spell to be learned. The character must actually acquire it through leveling, a teacher, a book, a scroll, a reward, a discovery, or the story.
