Fire · area offense

Fireball

Fireball is an area fire attack for several targets standing close together. Its role differs from that of a powerful spell against one opponent: it hits more targets but uses a bonus adjusted for the area-attack rule. In a story, it can decide a tense moment, although the actual positions of those involved still matter.

Before casting, it is important to choose the targets and follow the shared area-attack rule. One roll is checked against each target's magical defense separately, so the results need not be identical. An unlimited crowd cannot be hit automatically. The limit of one use per combat encourages waiting for a genuinely suitable situation rather than expecting the same power against an individual and a group.

Exact effect: One MATK roll is compared separately with each target's MDEF. The bonus is already reduced relative to a comparable single-target spell. Bonus: +3 to MATK. Target: at most 3 targets close together. Duration: instantaneous. Restrictions: once per combat; the shared area-attack rule applies. Using it requires at least Intelligence 9 and Level 3, the appropriate casting ability, and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.

Meeting requirements is not enough

Min. INT and Min. Level only allow a spell to be learned. The character must actually acquire it through leveling, a teacher, a book, a scroll, a reward, a discovery, or the story.
