Minor Magic Shield

Minor Magic Shield offers brief protection to the caster or an ally they can see. It suits a moment when the party expects an imminent attack and wants to support a threatened member. Its effect is small but specific; it does not guarantee complete safety or create a lasting layer of defense for the entire adventure.

Timing matters, because the protection ends after the next attack against the target or after a short time. Casting makes sense alongside a clear plan for who needs protection right now. The bonuses do not stack with another magical bonus to the same defense, so existing effects must be considered rather than automatically layering them.

Exact effect: The target gains +1 to both PDEF and MDEF against the next attack. Target: caster or 1 ally within sight. Duration: until the next attack against the target, at most 1 round. Restrictions: twice per combat; does not stack with another magical bonus to the same defense. Using it requires at least Intelligence 7, the appropriate casting ability, and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.

Meeting requirements is not enough

Min. INT and Min. Level only allow a spell to be learned. The character must actually acquire it through leveling, a teacher, a book, a scroll, a reward, a discovery, or the story.
