Speak with a Spirit
Speak with a Spirit allows several short questions to be put to a spirit that is present. It can turn a discovered spiritual trace into an actual encounter and offer a memory from a person or being connected to the place. However, the spirit is not an infallible chronicle. It knows only what it has learned and remembers, and its answer also depends on its willingness.
The limited number of questions is a reason to prepare them carefully. A good question can provide a useful direction, but the spell does not force the spirit to speak. In a story, trust, an explanation of intent, or another natural reason to cooperate may be needed. Comparing the answers with other clues is worthwhile rather than expecting a complete solution to the mystery.
Exact effect: Allows three short questions. The spirit answers according to its knowledge, memories, and willingness; the spell forces it neither to lie nor to speak. Target: 1 spirit that is present. Duration: at most 3 questions. Restrictions: once per spirit per scene. Using it requires at least Intelligence 7, the appropriate casting ability, and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.
