Soul Protection

Soul Protection briefly supports magical defense against the Spirit and Dark Magic schools. It can be valuable when facing an opponent whose power acts in this area. Its meaning in the story can be linked to resolve or a protective sign, but its rules effect applies only to the explicitly listed kinds of magic.

The caster chooses themselves or a visible ally and should account for the three-round duration. One use per combat and non-stacking mean that the benefit must be timed. The spell does not automatically protect against every school or physical attacks. The party therefore still needs to recognize the threat and decide whom this specific protection will help most.

Exact effect: The target gains +3 MDEF against spells of the Spirit and Dark Magic schools. Bonus: +3 MDEF. Target: caster or 1 ally within sight. Duration: 3 rounds. Restrictions: once per combat; only against Spirit and Dark Magic; does not stack. Using it requires at least Intelligence 7, the appropriate casting ability, and knowledge of this spell. Meeting the numerical requirements alone does not grant knowledge of the spell.

Meeting requirements is not enough

Min. INT and Min. Level only allow a spell to be learned. The character must actually acquire it through leveling, a teacher, a book, a scroll, a reward, a discovery, or the story.
