A large shield is the strongest standard shield option in this catalog. In Elaria, it may belong to a gate defender, an experienced guard, or a hero whose style centers on protection. A distinctive emblem can become the wearer's identifying mark and embody an important promise. Prestige in the story is not a special game ability.

Its greater protection requires sufficient strength and one available hand. Choosing a shield therefore depends on the weapon used and the role the hero wants to fulfill. The catalog does not automatically allow the entire party to hide behind it or grant magical resistance. Particular cover and other possibilities depend on the situation and the applicable rules.

The catalog lists the type as "shield" and the base physical defense bonus (PDEF) as +3. Required Strength is STR8. The price is 4 gp. Final defense also depends on the hero's attributes and the rules for the equipment in use. A shield is held in one hand; that hand must be available for its use.
