Mandolin

A mandolin offers a bright, lively sound suited to dance tunes and energetic accompaniment. In Elaria, it may be carried by a wandering player, a member of a small band, or a hero who learned music at home. The musician determines the performance's personal style: the same instrument may accompany a cheerful celebration or a quiet remembrance of a lost friend.

It is useful when a character wants to reach people through a musical performance and take part in local life. Knowing a favorite tune can begin an encounter, rather than automatically persuading every listener. The instrument's history may lead to an old teacher, a former band, or an unsettled debt; these themes do not change its basic effect.

Rules effect: +1 CHA during a musical performance. The price is 2 gp. The item is reusable rather than a single-use supply. Its listed effect applies to the situation it is intended for. Additional bonuses, other forms of protection, and new magical abilities are not part of this entry.
