Regional map

A regional map depicts a particular territory and may be valuable in Elaria because of its maker's knowledge. It may be accurate, old, annotated, or passed between guides. Familiar symbols, blank spaces, and differing names can point to changes in the landscape and the depicted area's past.

The navigation bonus applies within the area the map actually depicts. The item does not automatically reveal events that occurred after it was made or the movement of hidden opponents. The party can compare the map with the terrain, add their own discoveries, and seek its author. A dispute over an unmarked passage or missing settlement offers a natural beginning to another adventure.

Rules effect: +2 INT for navigation in the mapped area. The price is 1 gp. The item is reusable rather than a single-use supply. Its listed effect applies to the situation it is intended for. Additional bonuses, other forms of protection, and new magical abilities are not part of this entry.
