Ambush
During the first round of combat, gains +2 to the final Attack result if it was not detected before the fight.
Fantasy humanoid Challenge 3
A bugbear is a powerful humanoid that seeks Elaria's rugged forests, rocky ravines and abandoned buildings. Its strength draws attention, but its ability to hide and wait can be just as dangerous. Local legends say some groups descend from ancient forest clans, while others have long lived beside goblin gangs. In ruins, it chooses a position from which it can watch the approach and act quickly.
It may live alone, with a family or as a strong ally of a larger gang. Sometimes it accepts a chief's leadership; at other times, others follow its own authority. It is not merely muscle without a mind: it can assess risks, remember routes and exploit other people's inattention. Food, shelter, payment or protecting loved ones may motivate it. Some bugbears ambush travelers, but appearance alone does not determine their character.
Ambush adds to its attack in the first round if it was not detected before combat. Careful scouting can therefore remove its main advantage before the confrontation. Once revealed, it remains a powerful opponent that is dangerous to underestimate. The party may encounter a hired guard, a solitary resident of ruins or someone refusing to leave a place connected to their family. Discovering the true reason for its presence opens up solutions beyond attacking.
